90s was the era!

I strongly believe that creativity matters a lot in shaping up one`s life. Being born in 90s, I always feel lucky because of the fact that I grew up in a decade that has revolutionized the meaning of creativity!
90s was the decade where art, music, cinema, dance, cartoons, video games, songs, literature have seen the peaks in terms of creativity. This world has seen amazing contributions from brilliant artists, composers, gaming companies, filmmakers, cartoonists and the like. No doubt that this has been declining since the start of the new millennium. The first 10 years of a child is very important in shaping up his/her future. Being a 90s kid, I am loving that!

I want to share some of my views on this topic in various fields that interested me from my childhood.

Books: Tinkle, Chandamama & Chachachowdary defined my reading habits. Had there been no Tinkle in my childhood, I am sure I wouldn`t be the same person that I am today. Be it Suppandi or Tantri the Mantri or Shikari Shambu or Nasruddin Hodja or Ramu and Shamu, I loved every bit of Tinkle Digest. I even sent 2 jokes and 1 it-happened-to-me article which got published. Chacha chowdary and his assistant Sabu, the alien from Jupiter - an awesome combination of mental and physical strengths to solve any problem that comes in their way."Chacha chowdary`s brain works faster than a computer" creates nostalgia.

Songs: "Yayire Yayire" from "Rangeela" that came out in 1995 is a masterpiece movie song. The song talks about a girl who just gets a chance to fulfill her dream of becoming a heroine. Beautifully composed by A.R. Rehman, the legend combined with awesome lyrics and brilliant dance steps by Urmila Mantondkar makes this song one of my all time favorites.

"Oorvasi Oorvasi", another song from the movie "premikudu" which again came out in the same year (1995) is yet another jaw dropping creation by the same Maestro. "Takeeteesy policy" is conveyed in this song with a simple tune that every one can hum quite easily. There are infinite other songs composed by Illayaraja, the music guru of India which will mesmerize your brain like never before! Listen to this song and try to disagree with me!

When we look at the present day songs, they are shit. Pure shit. Music dominates the lyrics. Infinite instruments are being used which just spoils the beauty of what a song is.

Cartoons: I guess there is no 90s kid who grew up without knowing at least one of these characters - Tom & Jerry (no words to speak about its awesomeness), Powerpuff girls, Lion King (EPIC story), Scooby dooby doo, Swat cats, Popeye the sailor man (I know you are humming the title track now), Johny Bravo, Johny Quest, Dexter and many others. Creativity is maximum in all these cartoons. The 21st Century cartoons are not as brilliant as the 90s cartoons. Most of the shows are just dropped; I dont know why!
If they still telecast some of these, I would love to watch them again. I mean, com`on! do you ever get an idea to create a cartoon show where all the characters are cats? Your two protagonists are 1 thin cat and 1 fat cat - each of them expert in driving bike and plane respectively to save the city? Mind blowing music for the introductory video? I used to watch this right after I come from school :)

Dance: Micheal Jackson, this one word laid the foundation for what people understand as "dance" today. He redefined dance and created a whole new genre called "Pop". In fact, he wrote, composed, danced and released albums! Fucking awesome. Dance these days is just a flexible hero doing waves. One asshole holds his hand, the hero will go down and come up waving his butts and people are clapping. Disgusting!

Movies: 90s movies - the most important thing to talk about is "Script" which I think no one in the present day world cares about. Take the movie Nayakudu directed by ManiRatnam starring Kamal Hassan. Read the plot in the wikipedia page here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nayagan

I bet you would cry after watching this movie. There are infinite movies in the 90s whose story makes most of the modern script writers complete dumb fuckers. Also, no one can make a comedy film better than Jhandyala!

More than 50% of telugu movies now-a-days fall into one of these categories -

1. The hero is an asshole. However, heroine loves him just because she is heroine. There are problems between two villages. Our hero will solve them and also ultimately marry the heroine.
2. There is a big don somewhere overseas. He has large number of local mafia working under him in India. Hero makes them goats and wins over the big don in the climax. Heroine just flashes by a couple of times, sheds clothes and romances with the hero for no particular reason. Of course, we will have an item song inserted arbitrarily somewhere in the 3 hr. duration.
3. Meaningless love between hero and heroine; No story; Issues with parents; unreal college incidents; finally marriage.

Video games: Games, though started to pick up only in the 90s were immensely addictive during this period, way more than what they are now. The difficulty levels have drastically reduced over the years while graphics followed the reverse trend. Most importantly, game-play of a video game is like script of a movie. If it is screwed up, the game is a flop for sure.
Take NFS. NFS 2 which I played in my III standard, in fact, the first video game I ever played - laid the seeds of my interest in cars as such. The latest NFS games are also good but not as addictive as these golden oldies. Moreover, there is no real 'need for speed' in these latest games. A few more games I played in my childhood that implemented the seeds of imagination inside my mind - Diablo, Blood, Duke Nukem, Mafia, GTA 3, Quake II, Tomb Raider III, Prince of Persia (the old 2D one!), Tekken III etc. etc. etc.
If I do not mention the older TV Video games Mario, Contra, Super Contra, Super Mario, Double Dragon, Tank, Tetris, Alkanoid etc., then I am not doing justice to this post!

Gone are the good old days; I have to get along with the shit.

P.S. - I do agree that there are worst things in the 90s and best things in the modern era in all fields. However, the ratio of good:bad things matters!

Also note that by saying 90s I don`t exactly mean the period from 1990-2000. Everything I am talking here is a grayscale.

Placement dropout though not a college dropout

People keep asking me why I dropped out of placements and choose to be an entrepreneur. I am fed up answering to all your questions. So, I will share my views in this post and give this link when someone again asks me a similar question. It saves time.

Firstly, my choice was never about job vs. entrepreneurship. It is about one life style vs. another. I hate to work under some one. I hate a life which is routine and which bores me after an year or so. I hate a life which is not challenging. On the other hand, I love a job in a field that I am passionate about. I always love being myself. I love freedom to take my own decisions. I am ready to take risks and put in efforts to make my own venture successful. Yes, job is a safe and secure option but if I have to take risk, I have to take it as early as possible. Some famous saying I recently saw, "Take risks in life. If you win, you will lead. If you fail, you will guide".

Secondly, it is about my own personality that makes me go for a completely off-beat career option. I am an entrepreneur material. I am unique in most of the tasks I do. I have the guts to create and take an idea forward. I have the guts of living life in the hardest of times.

Thirdly, it also comes from inspiration. I am deeply influenced and inspired by two things.

1. My father 2. Steve Jobs` Stanford speech

My father has a harder than hardest background and he worked really hard to become the person he is today. From walking miles without chappals, from working as a person who make bills in Kamath hotel near Ravindrabharathi to pay off his college fee, he became a gold medalist in M.Sc. an M.Ed. and became a school teacher in Space Central School in Sri Hari Kota and went up the level to become a college lecturer and now he established his own college! Courage and Confidence - he has these qualities in tons. For every boy, his own father is his first hero. You are a Rockstar, dad.

Steve jobs` speech in Stanford is another thing that sent down a chill inside me. Particularly the following words moved me and indeed made a significant contribution in me making this decision -

"I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was, spending all the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out to be OK. It was pretty scary at that time, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.....

.... And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on."

About Typography which plays a great role in Graphic Design, he mentioned, "It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science cannot capture and I found it fascinating."

He continues, "Of course, it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college, but it was very very clear looking backwards ten years later. Again, you can`t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something. Your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots connect down the road will give you confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path and that would make all the difference."

"And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven`t found it yet, keep looking and don`t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you will know when you find it. And, like any other relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So, keep looking. Don`t settle."

"Your time is limited. So, don`t waste it living someone else`s life. Don`t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people`s thinking. Don`t let the noise of other`s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

Finally he concludes with a simple yet striking one-liner, "Stay hungry. Stay foolish."

Another reason that I am not taking up a job is that I do not think that my skills would really help a company that could hire me. I wouldn`t be contributing to the company`s growth in any way. Nor would I be really benefiting from the work I do there. It is a waste of time, money, resources and everything for both the company and myself. Also, it is not ethical to work in some company, taking money and doing nothing.

Rohit, my other associate at Desto Creative Solutions, says, "After 2 years, I may or may not be strong monetarily, but I would be strong as a person which is possible only by doing what you want to do."

Krithika Nelson, CEO of shopo.in says, "Entrepreneurs are a different clan! The good ones are very few and hard to find! It takes a lot of guts for someone to give up every comfort in life to start something of their own! The least you can do is to be proud of what they are doing, even if you don’t really understand everything about it"

I am sacrificing the comfort of having a secured, comfortable and may be luxurious life of doing a job, for having freedom in doing something on my own.

Input is primary. Output is secondary. I am ready to give the input.

Last but not the least, I believe that the world is full of possibilities.

Hard Disk failure - more damaging that heart failure

When you experience the worst, you can experience any damn thing that comes in your way.

I am probably being too optimistic by recalling the above sentence. Life is playing hard on me. Problems occur to humans, not to trees - people say; but what occurred to me are not just problems. They are atom bombs, hydrogen or nuclear or whichever is most powerful.

Over the past few years, I dedicated myself to various activities such as Graphic design, Photography, Academics, Placements etc. but never did I face so much trouble as within the last 1 week. Reason?
My Hard disk crashed.

Yes, you`ve heard it right. "You are not your hard disk" Kasa tried to console me, going the Fight club way. But, he doesn`t know that I am indeed my hard disk.
For a creative person, all his effort lies in his computer`s memory more than his own. I am not saying I am a creative person but at least I am trying to be one. I can no more show up some design and say it is mine unless I show the source file of it. Where are the source files? in my hard disk and where is the hard disk? Crashed.

Recently, I started learning Photography. Well, I did upload some pics on my FB profile but there are lot more creative ones hidden deep inside my hard disk. I wanted to share them with the world when the time comes. For example, with a tripod stand I clicked tube light and fan with shutter speeds varying from 1/3200 second to 15 seconds, and made the pics into a video and the result - a beauty and where is the beauty? In my hard disk and where is the hard disk? Crashed.

B.Tech Project - Infinite fight put in recently to develop two contact problems in Ansys. For one, a matlab code was also written. I pissed my ass off for doing these problems and all of them went into trash along with the hard disk.

3D Models - Animating a car scene - my dream. I was close enough and made a 15 second teaser for my upcoming short animation of a self-modeled, textured, animated and rendered Bugatti Veyron. It took 15 days to complete the teaser. Since I wasnt much satisfied, I waited for some free time to beautify it before showing it to the world. But, my hard disk did not wait.

Apart from these, there are many other files that went into pavilion because of the hard disk crash causing a huge loss of time and effort. For instance, I wrote a book of 110 pages, dreaming of becoming another Chetan Bhagat but now? I am the forever alone guy.

Now, this post is not to say that I had all great things hidden in my laptop and now, I am all alone. This is to stress that our lives these days are no longer in our control. It all depends on the machine in front of you right now. It can make your life or break your life.

The fact that I am writing this post in the midst of infinite tasks and deadlines ahead (placements, Multibody Dynamics assignment - the thing that decides E or U grade in that course for me, Desto Creative Solutions, end semesters), show how much I miss my hard disk. I feel like giving up in life, but yes, probably Kasa was right. I am not my hard disk. It was me who created all the files in it. So, why cant I do them again? Put night outs in December vacation? Seems legit.

Please go and immediately create a back up of your files. I have to restart my life from scratch.

Three parts of a course - The Prestige way!

Every course has 3 parts or acts.

The first part is called "Quiz 1". The professor gives you something ordinary - tutorial problems or multiple choice questions or one line answers. He gives you this problem, perhaps he asks you to solve it - to see that it is indeed solvable. Yeah, unaltered, normal. But of course, its not.

The second act is called "Quiz 2". The professor takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extra-ordinary. Now, you are looking for the solution but you wont find it because of course, you are not really solving. You dont really wanna know. You want to be fooled!

But you wouldnt be happy yet. Because solving a problem isnt enough. You have to earn grades! Thats why every course has a third act - the hardest part - the part we call "End sem".

1. It is not your sink

Daily morning, most of us brush our teeth. These days, I see some freshies using the bathroom sink as if they own it! Let me elaborate this with a typical case example. I go with a toothbrush and toothpaste to the sink at 7:25 AM, hoping to get the job done by 7:30 AM. When I go there, all I see is a freshie cleaning his toothbrush, applying paste and brushing his teeth left, right, up and down. There is nothing wrong with the procedure but it is the place that bothers me. He does all that stuff standing right in front of the sink without giving a fuck about the person waiting behind him. Let me remind you my friend, it is not your home sink. We are living in a community and we should optimize our living conditions for the well-being of everyone. Not that the other person waiting (in this case, me) cannot ask him to stand back for a while. That`s not the point here. If we keep making such requests, one might assume that whatever one is doing is not wrong and hence will not even try to think of its wrongness. Ethics, we call it. Moreover, you may argue that I should have woken up early if I was so much concerned about time. That again, is not the point here. Someone else might be present instead of this freshie at that time, who knows.

Why can`t everyone do this - Clean your brush, come back and complete the cleaning job. Go back to the sink and do gargling, tongue cleaning, cleaning your brush again and there you go! You have not only saved 3 minutes of others` lives but you can also stare at Deepika Padukone`s picture in the newspaper while you brush.

2. There are people behind you in a queue

Introduction of Food courts has revolutionized the way IIT(M)ians eat. In Food court, we stand in a queue, swipe our cards one by one and place our orders. A good procedure, I agree. However, the problem again is with the attitude of people. The person who is placing the order will start thinking of his order only by the time he reaches the billing machine. Until then, he keeps talking about all sorts of things in the world expect the immediate next thing which is what he is gonna eat for the day. What about the person-2 standing behind him? Person-1 doesnt give a damn, nor does person-2 himself. Sometimes, person-7 or 8 also doesnt care. When it goes beyond that, say I am the person-10; I get pissed off. Why cant anyone decide his order while standing in the queue? Our Objective function is to Minimize the time required for an activity, subject to so and so constraints. Optimization, I always say and try to follow.

3. Clean the toilets

Moving onto hygiene which is a very important segment of human life;

Everyone is expected to leave the toilets clean after easing themselves to create a good environment. The bathrooms should be accessed in a first come-first serve basis. Tools or equipment used should be disposed of as well. I mean, personal effects like soap, combs and creams should be cleared after use. More importantly, junta should avoid leaving the sink basin dirty with stuff like hair or split toothpaste.

When brushing our teeth, everyone is expected to use the sink and not the main bathroom to avoid staining of the bathroom floor and walls. However, in case of emergencies like only one sink is working and there are already 3 people waiting to clean the dirt off their teeth and you have an interview scheduled, this particular action can be tolerated.

Word play

Letters, Words, they way we write them, everything conveys certain meaning. An expression. In this post, I want to share some of the things which I personally observed and found true in most of the cases be it chats, emails, blogs, e-articles etc. The way you read a text in your mind changes based on the format of the text. Here are some examples.

1. Let us begin with the well-known concept first. Using Capital letters indicates shouting many a times. For instance, FUCK YOU! has more impact than fuck you! When you actually read a sentence, you read and analyze each word in your brain i.e. you read out loud inside your body though not audible to the outside world. So, if you read both fuck you and FUCK YOU, your inner voice will be stronger when you read the latter. Another example would be as follows.
A mail from your manager may end with "... I want to get this done ASAP" by which he is trying to shout at you virtually that he needs the work to be done as soon as possible!

2. One liners - People whose tweets or status messages are written in complete words and end with full stop have something to say to the world. Ending a complete sentence with a full stop especially in a one-liner adds a serene and bold expression to your sentence. Simplest sentences are often the best tweets. You make it clear to your audience about the idea depicted in your tweet.
"Design is creative, so are we." - Something like this.

3. People who post things like "gt a nw pet!! i luv her :) :) :)" are useless. They have nothing great about themselves.

4. Italics - "I did so & so, in a very similar way as he did" has more emphasis on 'doing it similar' as compared to "I did so & so, in a very similar way as he did". Sometimes, it adds a virtual "very" to the already existing real "very".

Some incidents are never forgotten

It was just another evening and I was riding back to home from college on my recently purchased Pulsar 220. By the time I reach the third junction, I usually take a left and then right and enter into a slum. Yes, because its a shortcut.

Today was no different. I took that shortcut and was slowly raising the accelerator on that road which was small enough to provide room for not more than one car. Far away, I saw three kids in school uniform walking on the left side of the road. I did not think too much about them and raised my accelerator again. When I was nearing them, two guys crossed the road. The third was a girl and I thought she was waiting for me to go ahead so that she can peacefully cross and join them. Just at the moment when my bike`s front tyre, the two boys and the girl were collinear, she jumped and attempted to cross the road. I was horrified and immediately applied breaks. She fell down near my feet. The two boys rushed to get her up. I was in absolute shock. I felt some noise in my back and turned around to see a bunch of slum people with rods in their hands running towards me - Definitely, to attack me. I didnt know what to do. I moved my head up and there came another shock. The sight of Patrol Police van with 4 cops made me dumb. I lost my mind.

With Slum people ready to attack on my back, Cops ready to do the same on my front, a girl with negligible injury crying as if she was going to die near my foot, I switched off my brain and raised the accelerator, took a turn and escaped. Or, that was what I thought. After taking 7-8 turns, I felt like a hero escaping from the furious mob. I made a mistake. I felt some light being reflected from my bike mirror and turned back to find the police van chasing me! I never thought their car would actually fit in these streets! Horrified, Petrified and fucked, I rushed through the streets randomly and aimlessly. My only goal was to escape. I felt like a ninja. I remembered all the action movies and realized that there are times in life which are just like those scenes they show in the movies.

Next big shock was not far ahead. In fact, nothing was ahead when I took a wrong turn. It was a dead end. DEAD END, literally apt for my situation. Knowing that I could do nothing, I turned off the bike and got down. Four seconds later, the police car stopped and two cops got down.

There were no words. One came and took away the bike. The other came and hit me hard on my ear. Then on my nose. Then everywhere on my head. 6 times.
He dragged me and threw me into the van and closed all the doors. It was pitch dark. A few minutes later, I got down at the police station and was put in lock up. There was a black stout rowdy in my jail looking seriously at me.
There were no words.

It was complete black out for me. I am a college student. I study engineering. What on earth am I doing in this dark room with a dark guy staring at me suspiciously? I went unconscious for about half an hour and then asked the nearest man in khaki dress for a mobile phone. (The guy who beat me took away my phone if I remember correctly)
This person was kind enough to give me his phone and also advised me to call my dad.
Dad is not the perfect choice if you have an elder brother. I immediately called my Infosys-brother and explained him the tragic story in short. He rushed to the station with lot of cash to be given to the damaged parties. Well, the police (van driver) asked him to go to the hospital first and pay the required amount to the girls family. They charged Rs.7000/- for an injury that did not even require stitches. Another 4k went into various kaakhi pockets.
I was released after all the financial transactions.
"My bike?" I asked in almost a dead voice.
"Come and take it on Sunday" came the reply.

One hell of a day. I managed saying a stupid story to my mom and thankfully, my dad is out of station.

- An incident that happened to a dear friend of mine, , who lives in Shivam Road, Hyderabad and studies electrical engineering in MVSR college of engineering. He narrated this whole story to me on the night of the same day, sitting in the Sai Baba temple bus stop at 11:30 PM. Believe me, I was terrified to ride back home after this sitting, though it was just 2 minutes away, as I spotted a police van nearby.

The Dengue days

4th September, 2011 (Sunday)
10:00 AM (i guess)

Somehow, I woke up. My body was burning. All my bones were kissing the bed. No joint was willing to move an inch. My mouth failed to make even the lowest of noises. I felt those were the last few minutes of my life, seriously. I tried to think of my dreams that are to be fulfilled. My brain didnt work, et al.
All I could do was count numbers in random order - and I was asleep again in a few minutes, no idea how many.

12:30 PM
Oh my Goodness! My joints did agree move this time! I could talk as well. My body though continued to be a furnance. I immediately called and texted my friends to get some medicine for my unbearable fever and headache. I took Crocin and fell asleep in a ziffy. I woke up at, I dont remember exactly, should be around 5:30 PM. Temperature was under control and I felt normal again. I thought it was just some fucking flu and ignored it and consumed 2 egg puff.

I vaguely tried to remember what I had consumed the previous night - A McDonals Burger, A Pizza hut Pizza, 2 Virgin Mozettos and some french fries. Yes, it was a treat from Desto team. It is ridiculous to consider that pizzas and burger raised my temperature. Moreover, I was feeling sick inside since Friday (2nd September). So, just to be safe, I went to the hospital and reported the same. I was given normal paracetemol tablets and was asked to revisit in case the fever persists.

I tried to figure out why such epic fever attacked me but since I turned normal, I didnt give a fuck.

On Monday (5th September) night, I felt dizzy again. I felt like sleeping. I woke up on Tuesday at 6:00 AM with a fucking hot body. I could sense some 104 degrees Fahreinheit. I immediately asked my friend to call the ambulance. I was hospitalized. It was then that I came to know of an embarassing way being practiced in institute hospital to reduce the body temperature quickly. Some random guy came to me and started wearing gloves. "Remove your shorts" he said. I thought he was attending the wrong patient. "What?" I asked to be sure.
"Remove your shorts" this time, he kind of yelled. Wondering why, having no other option, seeing that no one is watching me, I turned on one side and lowered my shorts a bit just to be sure that it was the same thing this guy wanted me to do... Even before I could do anything more, he took something and inserted into my (_|_). It was freaking cold. Whoosh! I could feel an immediate relief from the heat being generated from my body! This thing, whatever it is, absorbed all the heat coming out from my body and my temperature reduced within minutes. Whatever this guy did, I dont care.

I then gave a blood test - one report came in the evening. It showed all parameters in the normal range except for total count of WBC which was exceeded normal limits - a sign of infection. Dengue fever is characterized by low platelet count. But, in my case, they were fine because my usual count itself is close to the upper normal limit.

However, doctor advised me to take as much fluid as I can for at least 1 week as he could see signs of dehydration in my body (not sure if this because of Dengue). A minimum of 4 liters of water should go in, is what he said if I remember correctly. My brother came to my rescue by supplying infinite fresh fruit juices and tetra packs. A worried he, called my parents. They were so worried that they immediately took a bus from Nellore and came all the way to my room on Tuesday night. I wonder how, but on seeing them, I felt a great sense of relief. I turned as normal as I am! I had 2 quizzes, one on Wednesday and the other on Thursday and I could take both without much discomfort. Seeing that I am fine, my parents left on Wednesday afternoon after buying me 5 Tropicana Big tetra packs, 1 small tetra pack, 1 flask of mosambi juice - home made, 3 biscuit packets and 2 apples. I consumed every single thing happily in 2 days time.

The other report came on Thursday.
It said, "Dengue IgM +ve (11.71)"
When I first read it, I thought it said "you are dead". It sounded that dreadful.

Thursday afternoon to evening was again a period of torture - I could experience all heat transfer equations LIVE! conduction from my body to the mattress via bed sheet; convection from my body to the surrounding air; radiation from my body to all over the room...
Again, my brother helped a lot by supplying fruit juices frequently.

Friday, I was normal as hell.
Saturday, again I was normal as hell.

Just when I thought that the fever subsided, Saturday night turned to be a nightmare! Sunday morning story repeated. Bed-sick in my brother`s AC bedroom, consuming fruit juices/glucose/electrol/water at the rate of 1 glass per hour, I somehow survived till Sunday morning. My parents took the pain of coming again and this time, I cried inside on seeing them - Happy tears.

I went home with them on Sunday evening (in spite of having a quiz on Monday) and stayed there for 4 days. I gave another blood test there that showed Dengue is dying down but some infection is still present for which I was prescribed Antibiotics. Home is THE place to get refreshed. It is as if you press F5. I turned normal on Thursday and started back to Chennai.

This post is dedicated to all Dengue-effected patients in institute :P

Things to remember during Dengue fever:

You can do nothing about it - So have patience and let it go off on its own
Fever follows an on and off cycle.
A head ache concentrated on the back of your eyes may kill you.
Your taste buds will not work and you will loose appetite.
In case you consume cold juices as I did, you will get cold and because of that cold, you will get an extra head ache and fever.
If you dont get fever for 2 days, dont think that it is all over and do a head bath (yes, I did). You will be tortured even more!
Best thing to do - consume water-sleep-urinate-consume water-sleep-urinate and so on.

If people were numbers, the ideal life partner for anyone would be the "number Zero".

Why?

Zero is neither positive nor negative. It lies perfectly in between all the positive and negative numbers. It occupies the holy neutral place! This implies that the Zero person would be a balanced person in life weighing all positives and negatives equally, leading a neutral life.

Zero added to or subtracted from any number would leave the number unchanged. This means, the Zero person will not interfere with your space and allows you to be the same person you are. He/she does not impose any restrictions for the things you do!

The result when any number is multiplied with Zero is Zero. That is, the Zero person does not easily change his/her character whatever the situation might be. Many incidents in life are unavoidable and unexpected. To always maintain a consistent character is indeed an awesome quality and the Zero person has it in loads! (The largest number x 0 = 0 !)

Zero doesnt have any "value" assigned to it. So, the Zero has a pure heart.
Zero is a placeholder. It carries you life long.

Now, one may think that Zero is boring. Well, Zero does give surprises! (0! = 1; Division by 0 is not infinite - it is indefinite! ; 0/0 = ?? ; 0^0 = ?? are some of them)

Zero is the perfect match for anyone. I am number zero.

Yet another black day on my dairy…

After mugging for a mere one hour the day before, I slept and woke up at 6:00 AM. Although having realized that I mugged only the 6 problems given in the tutorial sheet, I wasn’t tensed. Because, one - there were many others like me; two - My brain is no longer of JEE standard; It fell to the level of – “give me a formula, give the values of knowns, I can find the unknown using a calculator” and three - I care no more.

So, I tried to memorize the 10 or so formulas again and went to the exam.

I took the paper and went to my allotted place.

“Take out your id cards and place them on your desk” invigilator announced.

It was then that I realized that my pocket was empty – I forgot my purse in the room which had all the stuff that could confirm my identity as a mechanical student of iit madras.

One of the TAs came to me and asked “where is your ID card?”

“Sir, I forgot to bring it. I shall produce it immediately after the exam”

“No, no. Please go away and bring it now. Or, go to HOD office and bring the warning slip signed by the concerned person.” He explained a detailed procedure that was more complex than applying for a driving license/passport in the Indian Government offices.

I really wonder why such insane rules exist in insti. Why on earth will someone else come and write my exam?! It is like asking a person, alive, “Show me your birth certificate so that I can confirm that you exist”

“Sir, please excuse me for now. Time is ticking. I have to write the exam.”

“Okay; wait. You talk to the madam” and he left, sending the madam to me.

“Whats wrong?” she sounded calm.

“Ma`m, I forgot my ID card in my room.”

“Okay, after the exam, go to HoD office and get a warning slip”

“Ok”

“otherwise, your paper will not be graded”

“Sure, Ma`m. I will bring the slip”

I checked the time. It was 8:10 AM. A good 40 minutes left. I had to hurry.

I looked at the question paper and to my utter disgust, none of them were tutorial problems. The hard mugging for the past two days, less sleep, ID card issue, Brain-cracking question paper increased my stress levels to cause a severe headache. I felt like giving up and sleeping in the examination hall.

I looked at the paper again and again to make sure that it was the same exam for which I mugged. I wrote a couple of formulae and some numbers on my answer sheet just to cross the “zero” mark. I may get 5 out of 30. I remembered the invigilators words, “… your sheet will not be graded”

‘As if that makes a difference’ I wondered.

After the exam, I went to the HoD office as instructed and took the warning slip. I then had to get it signed by some person in the office who was apparently absent. When I asked a lady out there, “get it signed by so&so..” she said. That so & so turned out to be the guy who fixes mikes and projectors in our MSB classrooms. I wonder if he has the relevant credentials for signing on a warning slip.

“Sure.” I said and left. He signed and I still doubt that he culted my pen as I didn’t find it after that scene. And by the way, he had the most number of doubts regarding my identity.

Did you lose your ID card?

Show me your ID card whenever you are free.

Apply for a new one in case you lost it.

He said infinite stuff like these which didn’t bother me an inch.

I then rushed to the next class, half-a-km away, in the scorching Chennai heat. Full of sweat, I slept in the class dreaming about a land where there are no ID cards, birth certificates etc. Seriously guys, its awesome.

I thought of bunking the remaining classes for the day and get a good sleep to forget everything.

Did you submit B slot assignment? Some one was asking some one else.

Shit, I did not submit that crap.

I called Kasa and hand-xeroxed his assignment that looked better than his`. I felt relieved and was about to pack to my room but then one of my lab mates interrupted - “did you write last week lab`s report?”

Fuck, I did not do that either.

So, another copy-paste act delivered a horrible lab report. Who cares?

IIT Education system sucks when it comes to lab reports. They do know that one person writes and the others copy it without caring to know what it is all about. It is a mere waste of time, paper and energy - which are fucking valuable in the modern scenario. Even the person who writes has no enthu to do it. He writes because some one has to. Otherwise, we have grade problems. Indian Institute of Technology is so backward that in a couple of IC engines experiments, it still asks its students to draw 10 graphs by hand!

I finally had to attend all the classes with an unbearable head ache. I skipped lunch, came to room and slept at 2 PM. I woke up at 8 PM.

Disgusted by the days proceedings, I made this blog post.

Moral of the day: Never ever forget to carry your ID card.

The Nerdvana - Story so far...

Whatever Kasa described about The Nerdvana and its creator(s) in this post, hardly matters now. We started off a website. It is up and is running successfully no matter what it contains, whosoever is responsible for its adult content.

As Kasa says " Its is a result of his joblessness, multiplied with his creativity and added to a desperate desire to irritate his ex-girl friend. Well, Finally he was successful in his attempts." where it refers to The Nerdvana and he refers to me.

Yes, I am successful in my attempts except that my aim is not to irritate my ex-girlfriend because no such soul exists.

So, why did I start Nerdvana?

I wanted FAME.
I didn`t want to still depend on my dad for my daily necessities. In other words, I needed MONEY.
I was jobless.
I wanted to do something unique.
I turned into a nerd lately.
I am so enthused in comics and art that my class notes are filled more with doodles than actual notes.
I had a software engineer brother who is willing to buy a domain, hosting or whatever shit that is needed for a website.

So, all these combined together created The Nerdvana, a geeky webcomic that quenches your thirst for humor.

I was a bit skeptical about the desired success of The Nerdvana. I wanted to grow to the level of xkcd. So, I thought partnership would be a better option. And the first person that struck my mind was Kasa Siva Rajesh.

If Big Bang theory : Sheldon Cooper, then iit madras : Kasa Siva Rajesh.

To put it simply, he is nerd maxxx.

He gave a kick start with a note pad file that had some 15 ideas. All were brilliant.

"How the hell do you get such awesome ideas man?" I asked him and he replied "I copied from net."

It took a day to explain him the importance of the originality and this project as a whole.

He was convinced and came up with some 4-5 original ideas that were great and were already published in www.thenerdvana.com

"So, what are you going to name your site?" He questioned.

"Hell-yes, I should think of it. Can you suggest something?" I asked.

After a day or two, he came up with "NERDVANA", and I liked it instantly. It represents extreme geekdom, very apt in our context.

However, the domain nerdvana . com was not available. So, we named it thenerdvana.com

Then, we needed a web developer to create our site. We hired Nithya who is good at infinite web languages and as we said in our Geek Peek page, she writes web codes faster than her class notes.

Due to some unavoidable reasons, we were not able to make a original template and code it in jhoomla which we planned initially. So, unable to control my nerve, I started off with a wordpress theme.

"Lets take Nithin" suggested Kasa.

"But why do we need him?"

"He is awesome"

"what work will he do?"

"Anything"

So, Nithin became our chief editor, I still do not know what is that supposed to mean.

And, we were a 4 member team then.

Thus, our first comic was up on 23rd January, 2011. As expected, we did not bother about the day/time being auspicious to launch. Common! we are nerds.

After posting 3 comics, I was so high on nerdvana that I mailed the Legend Spiked Math, about our site and requested that if it can included in "Top Math Comics" column in his site. I got an instant response saying that The Nerdvana is donig well and our big achievement came early.

The Nerdvana is featured as the 13th best comic strip on Spiked Math!

Then came Abhinay Sali into the picture. When we were asked to design a purse in our minor course, he designed something and something else came out of it. That developed into an amazing idea and I made a post out of it in The Nerdvana, of course, giving him due credit. The post is a censored one, so I am not naming it. (Ah, now you get it!)

After being 1 and half month old, I felt as if I am the only one in our team contributing to our site. Character ideation and creation, making the comics, Purchase of Domain and Hosting, Website design and maintenance, publicity etc. are being done by me. Except for a very few ideas, my friends are not contributing much. And worst of all, my "improve this" mails are getting unusually late responses from `em. Therefore, I finally fired them yesterday with a hope that I could continue the site alone! I lately realized that Sole Proprietorship is a better option for a person like me.

Let us see what happens now.

The following is an account of my thoughts, reflections and understanding of the “creative problem solving” workshop conducted by Bala Ramadurai and Prakasan Kappoth as a part of our “innovation & social entrepreneurship” course.

This workshop exhaustively dealt with creative problem solving techniques. Let me present you, in this article, a gist of what was discussed or rather practiced in the class.

The participants were given a TRIZ workbook and were asked to apply the TRIZ techniques to a pre-chosen problem statement (related to various sectors such as energy, health, water etc.) and see what can be achieved.

To start with, solving any problem needs “3D”s.

1. Discover

2. Design

3. Deliver

Discover:

The first stage, Discover, marks the start of the project. This begins with an initial idea or inspiration, in which user needs are identified. These may include Market research, user research, Managing information etc.

Design:

The second stage represents the design stage, where firstly, interpretation and alignment of these needs to business objectives is achieved. Secondly, Design-led solutions are developed, iterated and tested.

Deliver:

The final stage represents the Delivery, where the resulting product or service is finalized and launched in the relevant market. The key elements during this stage are final testing, approval and launch, evaluation and feedback loops.

Having said that, let us look at what principles or methods can be applied to address the required needs.

TRIZ:

A problem of any sector, any individual/community/organization, of any magnitude can be solved using a simple technique called “TRIZ”. As Wikipedia puts it, TRIZ is a “problem-solving, analysis and forecasting tool derived from the study of patterns of invention in the global patent literature.” It was developed by the Soviet inventor and science fiction author Genrich Altshuller and his colleagues in 1946. It is essentially a theory of inventive problem solving.

There are three ways of approach to solve any problem as shown in the above figure.

The first way is random thinking of solutions, which in most of the cases will not give the desired solution; Worse – it leads to chaos.

The second approach leads us to an efficient solution but it’s a time consuming process and sometimes, you deviate way beyond your target.

The last and the best approach is to apply TRIZ techniques which directly leads you to the most appropriate solution quickly!

TRIZ, as of now consist of 40 principles that are very effective in solving any kind of problem.

The underlying principles of TRIZ are as follows –

Someone, somewhere, has already solved your problem or a very similar one. Your job is to find that solution and modify it to fit to your circumstances.
No compromise - Remove the source of the problem!

To know about all those principles, one can always google; but Let me discuss some very interesting examples that were mentioned to us in the workshop.

Nested Doll:

This is the telescopic approach of obtaining a solution. This is as simple as placing one object inside the other!

Some good examples that use nested dolls principle are the antenna of a radio, the cylindrical container used for carrying drawing sheets, Reliance`s shop within a shop etc.

Prior Action:
Let me explain this with an example -

When an aeroplane lands on the runaway, a lot of heat is generated between the ground and its wheels, which eventually leads to the failure of the wheels. This is due to friction, especially when the stationary wheels touch the ground, the wheel speed increases from zero to a very large value in a fraction of second. This problem can be solved by applying prior action principle. If the wheels start rotating before the landing occurs, the amount of friction generated will be less and thus the damage can be avoided!

Smart materials:

Choosing appropriate materials is applicable to most of the engineering related problems. The properties like yield strength, thermal conductivity, density etc. are to be taken into consideration while deciding a material.

There are infinite examples of TRIZ techniques, accessible easily on the world wide web.

Besides the 40 principles, there are four very important concepts that one need to understand and practice while solving a problem.

Stories:

We have the standard “5W1H” approach of identifying and more importantly understanding a problem.

Who is affected?

What is the problem?

Where is the problem?

When is it a problem?

Why is it a problem?

How is it a problem?

A little enhancement to the above procedure is the “5W1H & not” approach which simply adds a set of 6 more questions by including “not” say for instance, Who is not affected? How is it not a problem? etc.

9 windows:

9 windows is a 3x3 matrix which essentially sorts out the important elements of your problem.

We first start by identifying the system in the present i.e. the center cell. Much to our surprise, this is probably the toughest part! Once it is identified, the sub-system is where the parts that make up the system enter; while super-system contains the environmental elements in which the system functions.

There are several ways to use the past, present and future columns. One simple method involves asking the following questions:

Past: How could I have solved the problem if I could travel back in time?
Present: If I could do something different right now so that this problem wouldn't be happening, what would it be?
Future: The problem still exists and I was not able to prevent it. How can I fix it?

IFR:

IFR stands for “Ideal Final Result”.

Here, we assume that the problem is already solved and call that solution as the ideal result. We then start coming backwards and get to know what is stopping to achieve the ideal result and how best can we solve it.

The IFR encourages "out of the box thinking", by removing all barriers,offering alternate solution paths. The ideal product or system may not exist, or may not be possible to achieve, but the knowledge of the ideal system helps us to improve the present system. Once we find the features of the ideal product, we put those features as our target and try to improve the current product to achieve this target. Anything that is present between the current and the ideal stages of a product is obviously a future stage of the product.

So, IFR can be given by the following equation (yes, an equation!) –

IFR = sigma(benefits)/[sigma(costs)+sigma(harm)]

The IFR has four key features:

Eliminates the deficiencies of the original system
Preserves the advantages of the original system
Does not complicate the system (it may use free resources)
Does not introduce new disadvantages

FA (Functional Analysis):

This is a case of trimming the problem by cutting out the unnecessary elements. This is best done by visual representation of the problem.

Conclusion:

For solving problems, I always practiced “let us try everything” approach, which as I said earlier, is laborious. I never really believed that there exists a systematic approach of obtaining solutions to a given problem until I attended this workshop. The results were astonishing given that we found 30 odd solutions for our problem statement - "energy savings in conventional systems"

There are a lot of examples on the net, showing the power of TRIZ in problem solving, especially in engineering, the field that most of us are concerned about. Car companies like Ford and Daimler-Chrysler, Johnson & Johnson, aeronautics companies Boeing, NASA, technology companies Hewlett Packard, Motorola, General Electric, Xerox, IBM, LG and Samsung, and Procter and Gamble and Kodak use TRIZ techniques to solve some of their problems!

For mechanical engineers, check this file just to get a feel of how powerful a tool TRIZ is, in engineering applications!

When your day is messed up...

Here goes another &*#! day of my life -

After a 4 hour sleep, I attended the B slot quiz only to see that it’s a guinness book of world records contest and not a quiz meant for engineering students. Correctly answering one out of the four questions given will surely make you a topper!

Naturally frustrated by that question paper, I went to C slot and slept.

Since D slot was free, I went to academic section to check with the problem of registration with my minor course.

“You have not registered for your minor course. Get a letter signed by the concerned faculty that you are a part of his course and that you have been attending classes from the beginning of this semester; I will take care of the rest” the fat lady at the Btech desk said with a pride.

I wondered what rest will she take care of.

And I doubt if I my prof knew that I am a part of his course. She gave such a big procedure probably because she can atleast get job satisfaction by doing something.

After all, she was in a position of screwing up students lives, equivalent to dean? May be.

Then came E slot – It is a Wyndor Glass problem, always.

Madam announced names of those teams that did mistakes in an assignment given long back, that was already conveniently forgotten. Yes, our team, The Nerdvana got placed in that list.

During lunch time, my cold got severe and nose blocked to such an extent that using mouth was my only option to take in oxygen. Cough, Headache, mild fever etc. followed, making me stick to my bed.

I slept from 12.30 to 7.30 pm and woke up to realize that I missed my minor class for which we were supposed to give presentations. Fuck!

Helpless, I opened my analytics account for www.thenerdvana.com and found that hits were miserably low compared to the previous day. I had to post something and didn’t put much fight for it. I posted a comic similar to one of my previous posts, just to keep it updated.

I was in a NKWTD syndrome. I remembered G slot project presentation that we were supposed to give and just modeled and rendered a product in half an hour, and I still wonder why I did that because the presentations were already finished.

I went online and my minor team mate, Abhinay Sali pinged and said “Our pulley pulled our legs” which meant our team screwed it up badly.

“Did we score the least in the class?” I asked sadly.

“indeed” he replied.

I was dumbstruck. I never scored least in any class. Yes, so there is a first for everything.

I checked time and it was almost 9 pm, which meant I cant go to mess. So, I had to spend money, though in financial crisis, on food, in Basera, with Pratheesh.

Then an old friend of mine called. I didn’t remember his name; hell – he asked me to find out!

Last and the worst, Google adsense rejected my proposal for placing ads in my site saying that it is in beginning stages and ads can be placed only if the site is old enough to meet their requirements.

Phew, I am not able to sleep as well.

I put an unnecessary night out writing this. At 5 AM, I woke up Pratheesh to remind him of his promise of accompanying me to tea at tarams. He gave hand.

I badly needed tea to cure my headache physically and mentally. I went alone, for the first time!

NKWTD, I am posting this.

I am back to my American Psycho days!

Problem statement: Design a product to carry heavy objects (especially water cans or gas cylinders) easily on stairs.

I used a tri-wheel mechanism and a frame that can support the required weights.
There is a cushion-material at the place where we pull with our hands. This is provided for comfort handling.

Let me narrate you something that had happened in my past -

When I was in my VIII standard, I had to go to Delhi urgently; me & my Grandpa boarded the Rajdhani express. During our forward journey, there were so-called "devotees of God" who didnt care to give place to even my grandpa though there was some room, enough to accommodate one person was possible. They even used abusive language leave alone giving room. These theists who did not care to help an old man were headed to Tirupathi to seek the blessings of God. On our return journey, our coach was filled with Military men and they kindly helped both of us. One of them with whom I chatted for a long time, told me -
"Believe in yourself rather than in non-existent things like God. You will know what life is"
It was this very moment that I started thinking about the harsh realities in life.

Well, I do not claim that this is the incident that changed my life or something so emotional; however, it did have an impact on me and it was then that I started the habit of practical thinking.

There was once a huge traffic jam in nellore, my home town and nearly every vehicle in the vicinity of human eye was blocked. There was an ambulance which apparently needed to rush to the hospital to save a patient`s life and it was not in a position to move even an inch forward. The helpless driver and the patient`s relatives got down and literally begged for the clearance of blockage and guess what? The blockage was caused by a group of dancing people who brought their "GOD" onto the streets! Apart from this shit, their drum beats caused enough noise pollution to break the drums inside my ears.

Police entered the zone after a while and they gave up saying that they cannot interfere in "holy" issues. It was all cleared after nearly 2 hours and God knows the condition of the patient.

Some people say "mokku" I do not know the english version of this word. "If I get in top 10 in the exam, I will break 100 coconuts for you" - saying things like that is utter bullshit.
If you want to get placed in top 10, work your ass off. How can someone you never saw, you never know help you with that?! It is all in your hands. There are only 2 ways -
1. Work and succeed
2. Ignore and fail.
God doesnt care and let me tell you, he also cannot bear the tsunami of breaking 100 coconuts at once. One is more than enough.

It is your life after all, so lead it the way you want. If you let others like say "God" to enter it, you are not only spoiling your privacy but at the same time, you are accepting that you are a coward. Be a man! Wake up.
People only wear an Ayyappa costume because they are afraid of the consequences of their misdeeds and hope to seek mercy from God; & the worst part is - They feel that there is someone hearing their prayers and forgiving them while the fact always remains that this "someone" is non-existent, imaginary, hypothetical. Poor Bakthas.

People seek the blessings of God for whatever they do/going to do. Let me enlighten you - God doesnt give a fuck of what you do. Take blessings from your parents. No one else on this planet will wish for your good more than your parents.

If we come to swamijis, whoever believes in Puttaparthi Saibaba`s magic deeds, he is an ^$&*$. "He" here refers to both the performer and the audience. One day, he said that he would showcase himself to this world by making his face appear on the moon which drew huge crowds. Later that evening, he packed the idea saying that the "holy" day went cloudy and the moon may not be visible properly. What crap is that?
& Regarding the other swamijis in a similar profession, all I can say is - they are Jaffanandas.

I dont mind people worshiping God as long as it doesnt trouble others.
You may question - who the hell are you to say this?
Well, I am just this common man who gets disturbed by your act of worship.

See a god in your parents. See a god in your siblings; your teachers; in society; in talented people;
but dont see a god in GOD!

You can worship god to get peace of mind; but not at the cost of disturbing others` peace of mind!

RGV strikes back !
After people spatting on him and his recent movies, our hero did not care. He came back with a movie which can be categorized into the "extra-ordinary" zone.

Raktha Charitra

Firstly, this is a movie where you can hardly find anyone with poor acting performance. Rich screenplay and amazing music, forms the other striking features of RC. He breaks the conventional mode of showing the movie title at the beginning. There is an awesome 20 min clip before the actual title appears and the way he narrates how the history began is outstanding!

The background score involves you so much into the movie that you actually feel like killing someone you hate. RGV, with his awesome film making skills made other routine directors spat on themselves. The kind of hard work he did for making RC series is beyond imagination; He actually went to the criminal`s families, enquired about their lives, surroundings etc.,.
Vivek Oberoi - is shown immediately after the title, with "dorikithe chasthav" playing in the background. I really wonder how RGV actually imagined that merely showing a man riding a scooter in slow motion with such a song playing would give you goose bumps! Hats off sir!

Another legend in the movie - Kota; the way he moves to and fro (see again if you havent observed this) is again an RGV typical thought of vilan-ism. His slow and short dialogues are perfect ! Prathap (Vivek) killing the MLA Narasimha reddy was shot with perfection. A peaceful atmosphere was shown in his house, with his wife cooking food, Narasimha Reddy reading a newspaper, and other people outside the house. Suddenly, our hero enters in a zeep, kills him and leaves which supplements the level of rage he has been through since the previous scene (where he describes his anger and killing plan).

Bokka reddy watching the girl on fair & lovely banner on the road, the gang who kills him pushing the ball to the little boy playing with it etc., are the ideas which only a handful of directors can imagine.

Coming to the so-called contraverseries, "screw media" is the best option to choose. Of course, RGV does that quite often. He had made some groundwork and wanted to show people a movie based on a true story. So, what is the problem with these people? After all, its a movie. Why do people care so much about it? just enjoy the music, screenplay, acting and direction.

RGVs guts are reflected much more when the trailer for RC-2 plays at the end of RC-1, even showing the rele1ase date.

Wow.
What a journey it was!

I never believed in movie directors whenever I see the hero sitting alone in a train and a beautiful girl enters the train and sits next to him and at the end of the day, they get married;
I travelled alone N times but I usually find either a fat old lady or an irritating crying lad next to me. Today, it was different.I checked the names list stuck on to the Charminar express and as usual disappointed to find no one in the range of F17 - F22 nearby my seat.
Ten minutes after the train started, I was there sitting with my sony earphones plugged in and wondering about the person supposed-to-be-seated-in my opposite seat which remained empty. 5 more minutes passed away. The train accelerated and then it happened. I felt some conversation going on at my back and tilted my head a bit to find a salwar kameez. I immediately paused my player to know whats happening.
"Shit we are screwed" one girl said.
"Yea.. Clueless now, I dont know what to do" the girl inside this salwar kameez added.
I heard some more voices saying words like luggage, ticket etc.,. but I didnt bother. 10 more minutes and the issue did not stop, just that the salwar kameez came closer to me by 4.78 cm. Now, I saw a different part of the apparel, that is the front part. Apparently, she has turned around, most probably facing me.
Finally, I could not resist speaking.
I removed my earphones and spoke to her,
"What happened ? Any problem?"
"Err.. Yes. We booked our tickets for Hyderabad Express but we missed it. So, we took this one and since there is no place at all in General Compartment, we came here. If we can find someone who can atleast take care of our luggage, we can manage somehow"
"Ooh.. Hmmm... People going to Hyd are generally in the later compartments, should be from S8" I tried to help her by giving info.
"Hmm..." she was about to ask something but her friend in white top and choclate-brown jeans interrupted.
"Hey, this seat is empty as of now. We can keep our luggage here.. this aunt gave permission" she said happily.
"Cool. Thank you aunty" she replied and they arranged their American Tourister luggage in the place mentioned. They started moving towards the other end but suddenly the t shirt girl said,
"Hey, my legs are paining. Shall we sit there for sometime?" pointing to the place right opposite to me (I am on one side berth and the opposite one was vacant)
"hmm.. okay" the salwar kameez girl said and both of them approached me.
Salwar spoke, "If you dont mind can we sit here for some time?"
Oh my Goodness. It was then that I believed all film directors. Yes, such cinematic incidents do happen.
"Sure. Why not?" I tried to hide my happiness.
So they occupied their seats and started chit-chatting. I did not care and went back to listening songs.
The next half an hour was a visual treat for me. The t shirt girl untied and tied back her hair for a good 20 times at the least. The kameez girl`s face was directly, subtly visible to me and it was flawless. A typical homely look. Both the girls had this typical Hyderabadi feminine touch.
Slowly, I closed my eyes and a moment later, I heard giggles.
I again paused my player. Yea, using mp3 players and really cool. Outsiders do not know if you are listening to songs or listening to them!
"You ask him" Kameez girl.
"No, you tell him; You look beautiful" t shirt girl. Yea, the latter part was right but what are they gonna ask me I wondered.
I kept silent although I knew they had something to share with me until the girl touched my hand to make me understand that she wants to say something.
"yes?" I said.
"um.. You tell" she turned to the other girl
"Hey, aah... er... If TT comes, we will say that you are our friend and we came here to talk with you and that our tickets are with other friends in S10"
I did not really get her concept but I liked the idea of being her friend, real or fake.
"Okay. No problem"
"Thank you... Thanks a lot"

But when TT came, she immediately said, "hey take care of our bags. We will be back shortly" and they left in a nano second. I was left there, like a watchman with two female bags.

They came back after 10 minutes and -
"We managed TT. Happys" she giggled.
"Thats good. How did you miss the other train?" I asked. Damn! What a fucking question! Of all, I better know how to miss a train especially the Hyderabad Express. I missed it a month back and I am asking a beautiful girl how she missed it as if missing trains is awesome.
"Hmm... Thats a big story" and she started taking her luggage.
"Where are you going?" I could not control my anxiety.
"Right there. We will sit on the top berth. Its vacant. We wont trouble you anymore"
"Its ok. I am not getting troubled..." but I was too late. She already put their bags on the top.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Err.. Listening to songs" I said.
"Hehe.. no no I meant what do you do? studies..?"
"oops. Engineering. Btech"
"Oh, where?"
"iit madras"
"Aaaweee. We are from Shaastra"

Abhinay Sali claims himself that he is creating tsunamis; while the fact remains that Btechs hate that so-called self-named tsunami.

Ganga mechies (excluding very few) are into various awesome just-before-exam activities that include chess, nfs-hp3, football, christopher nolan and non-christopher nolan movies; while the excluded-very-few are into intensive mugging. As they say, there needs to be balance everywhere.

Kasa is creating new folders everyday.
The new height of craziness - "Kasa is speaking to a girl (read as the girl is speaking to Kasa) for not less than half-an-hour daily during nights."
"Mama, good morninglu good nightlu pampisthondhi ra" he says.

Pratheesh says "I drink. I die."

Btm almost killed Pratheesh when the latter said he hates Nolan.

Bharath`s concern for Sharavites has been increasing at an alarming rate and needs to be taken care of.

How is a horror movie made?

There is a happy family with a responsible dad, a hot mom and 2 kids, a boy and a girl(Usually the girl being elder). They move to a new house, located far off from the city, for no reason. There are no neighbors, thanks to all horror movie directors. There is usually a forest or some greenery in the surroundings of the house. There is always a swing outside the house that swings without anyone on it. There is at least one huge tree in the area. The kids love to play with toys, especially the girl - she is fond of dolls. All dolls are terrific, I say. One or two servants can also be a part of the play. They have no role in the movie except for a couple of scenes where they fear from something which will not be shown and die brutally.

The first 80% of the movie is the same god damn shit in every horror film. All the family members begin to involve in strange and terrifying experience. The background score is THE thing that plays a major part in all these scenes. It mostly consists of mono/di syllable (- I dont the music-equivalent word for this) notes with low pitch and high intensity. C`m`n people, try to watch a horror movie mute! Its just as same as a Balayya comedy.

Now, our responsible dad never believes in ghosts and stuff (though his heart slips into his pants in the climax), and he convinces his family members that there is nothing extra-ordinary or supernatural happening in their new home.

The female lead bathes and comes into the bedroom with less/no clothes and there is one hot scene between the parents just to spice up the horror.

Yup, horror and sex go well with each other.

The camera mostly moves close to the character slowly from the backside.

The director may bring in one more character who is a swami or something with all weird stuff on him. He murmurs some mantras as if God is speaking to him and tells the hero about his situation and some remedy which will be more stupid than whatever you expect.

Last 20% has the action part, which is the only thing that differs from movie to movie. But the common aspect here is that this will be shot only during nights. Yea, the ghost just creates horror in the day time, and triggers the action part i.e. killing someone only during nights. Its kind of standard timings for all types of ghosts.

All those previous 80% stuff can be from a real ghost or its pure drama. The whole family surviving hardly happens. Either of the parents die or turn into a ghost. Children go crazy. If it is a RGV movie, all the characters in the movie turn into ghosts or all of them just die. RGV, please enlighten us, do we have a choice of which path to take when we die?

After the final night`s drama in the house, the screen fades into black and a fresh early morning sun is shown. Everything is shown to be peaceful till the last minute where the director pitches in something that enables to make him a sequel which will be equally/more stupid than its prequel.

GRT is in a pursuit of knowing who he is and why he was sent to earth by God; He lately realized that he is a robot. (Factoid: Robots can sleep more than 24hrs a day.)
Pratheesh is doing only half of the semester`s credits. He says that is all is needed. There is no G slot for Pratheesh.
Kasa has transformed completely into a gay. “I am not getting XXX even on seeing porn, but I am getting it when I see N***" is what he recently stated.
Two civil guys roaming in the wing exposing their top has turned into a serious threat for the other inmates of the wing who are always into these naked stuff.
Nithin is accused of breaking the Bro code rules. Volume II, Rule 24 says “No Bro shall fall in love with a second year no matter how beautiful she is. The maximum limit in this context is saying “dude… she is sexy.”” Nithin went to CCD with XXX, a fish vol. (new folder 4?)
“It has been one month since I went to ascendas” bharath sadly says; as if he is doing a course in Ascendas and he is on the verge of getting a W grade.
Reports said Bladdy came out of his room with newspapers whose number is greater than what is needed to build the strongest paper chair for ID110 project, saying “Mama… I just started cleaning my room. This is just a teaser.”
No one is able to understand why elec IB is trying to RG mech junta.
Uttam successfully taught a lesson to Loya by stealing his laptop. Next on the line is Nithin.
Kasa couldn’t provide justification to his own title The Turbomachine. He secured just 3 out of 5 marks in a slip test. “How can one write about himself?” he asks.
People coming out from Pampa entrance said that they called fire engine when they saw smoke coming out from Karthik`s room. It was sent back later when they came to know that the reason for the same was excessive mugging. Kasa suggested to put a cooling pad on him.
"We are family" says Karthik, when the profs call Aarya, Geetha and Ajay in the same order.

Hi friends,

After experiencing an awesome Shaastra 2010, I am back with a new post. More on Shaastra stuff later, but something that happened today made me immediately login to my blogger account and scribble this thing.

I did not really care about the psychic viva for the roundness error experiment until I really experienced it today. Well, I guess that is more than enough an introduction, this is how it went...

ME 21 to 25 are our team members, with 21 being myself.

23 had the first session. Next, it was 24`s turn to get raped.

Then, I went in.

Thinking that I am 25 while the actual 25 is "Rakesh Reddy",

Prof invited me in saying, "Reddy?" which I heard as "ready?"

"Yes, sir." I said with a confusion.

"Rakesh Reddy?"

"oops. no sir, I am raviteja, 21."

"Ok. Sit down." He sounded crisp.

Reading the conclusion in my report, his first question was "is that all you concluded?"

I did not know what to reply. Yeah, that was all I concluded; Is there anything else in that shit?? I dont know. I dont care.

After a few normal questions which I was able to answer peacefully and when I started thinking that everything was going well, he started the great psychic show.

"Show this in the graph." He asked, pointing at a value in the table in my report. I took the graph and showed the difference between the 2 plots at that value, which is exactly what he was asking.

"Measure it." he ordered.

I took a scale and found it to be some 7.6 mm.

"It is 7.6mm sir and since in this graph, 5 microns is equal to 9 mm.."

I was about to scale the measured value and tell him, but he interrupted.

"is equal to?????" he asked.

"err.. i mean.. scale.. equivalent"

"Equivalent??? You and this guy have a head, 2 eyes etc.,. Both of you are equivalent?" He asked pointing at one of the TAs. All of us smiled including the embarrassed TA.

After a minute of silence,

"Ok. Since you used the word equivalent, what are equivalent traingles?"

Is there anything called equivalent triangles? I dont know.

"Sir, if the angles in 2 triangles are same, they are called as equivalent triangles."

"Oh! then what are similar triangles?"

Shit. "Sir, similar triangles are the ones with equal angles. I do not know what are equivalent triangles."

May be he also did not know. He changed the question.

"What is the distance between the cylindrical part and the probe just before the start of the experiment?"

"That is the stupidest question I have ever heard" I wanted to say. All we know is that it is kept at a certain distance before we start measuring the roundness.

After another moment of silence and a blank face that I put,

"It will be shown in the screen at that time." He gave a supposed-to-be-hint-for-him while it was pure-bull-shit for me.

"Sorry sir. I did not see." I tried to be as polite as possible.

"You did not see??" He was surprised as if I did not see Rehman receiving Oscar.

"I mean.. I saw.. but I did not observe sir."

This is the moment I was caught! Folding his hands, adjusting his spectacles close to his nose and leaning back a bit, "Ok. What is the difference between seeing and observing?"

How the hell is it related to roundness measurement? Anyways,

"Seeing is just looking at things and observation is understanding what you see, sir" I replied smartly. Smart enough that he gave this comment which I am currently trying to interpret -

"As your age increases, your knowledge should increase but it is currently decreasing for us."

Lastly, he asked me if I participated for Shaastra. I wanted to boast that I am the design core but then imagining the consequent questions that may follow, I packed.

That`s it for the day. One hell of psychic melodrama in MSB.

Why do you need first love?

One of the most important things a boy has to do, once he crosses the age of 17 is to have a crush on some girl. Now, let us study why this is important.

Let us analyze the above graph plot by the author over his years of experience in studying human psychology.
The first major advantage of loving somebody comes from the various tricks you play to impress your loved one. You get out the tiniest talent hidden in you and exhibit it in the most beautiful way possible. As days progress, you develop it more and more to impress her and finally when she ditches you (which happens in more than 90% of the cases), your talent alone remains. Creativity reaches its extreme limits. This is exactly what is explained by the above graph till the end of break-up.

Life is not short my friends. You will find another chick for sure; and it begins the deterioration of your built-up-creativity; but since you have gained experience the end of this period will not match with your beginning stages. It ends somewhere above your initial creativity. This difference in creativity levels (represented by Delta-C in the graph) is called "THE GRT DIFFERENCE". It shows a linear increase with the increase in no. of girls that come into your life. So, in the long run, as the number of girls tends to infinity, it reaches its maximum limit, which is termed as the "ULTIMATE CREATIVITY LIMIT".
Only, the time that one takes to reach this may differ from person to person. Most of the people die without reaching it.

Next comes Money.
I hope the oxford dictionary includes "loosing money" as a synonym under the word "girl-friend." As shown in the graph, it falls badly till break-up and not-so-badly after break-up. (Most of the people think devdas stuff is needed to recover which is utterly wrong) Then, comes ambiguity in the graph. If you can use your developed-creativity in your new relationship, you can peacefully take the orange path which in a way increases money during second-love period. If you fail to do that, red path is waiting for you!

The graph holds good for all kinds of mobile usage (calls, texting etc.,.) A point to be noted is it remains almost the same in both the first love period and the second love period. (Men are Men!) During break-up, you feel like a cell phone is the worst thing man has ever invented; and if your first love is strong enough, you keep thinking of the times when you both texted the whole nights, her cute voice in the short calls that you made etc.,. all of which is DUMB SHIT, USELESS CRAP.

There are hell lot of more things to explain, meet you some other day!

Long time... No post... Shaastra Coreship explains it all.
After working(read as fart) in CFI till 5 AM, I go to tarams with pratheesh and btm, have a cup of tea, and come back to room. I try to sleep in vain. I try to read a novel in vain.

So, I thought I would make a post on the "Inception" poster made for shaastra, which many people loved.

Here are the reference images:

First, lemme explain the bottom part.
Most of the work is done by clone stamp tool. The background has been neatly extracted by cloning that rotating thingy. The pre-rendered 3d dice was taken and put up in position. It was duplicated 5 times and changing the position, scale, opacity and applying blur in various styles gave it a rotating effect.
The entire image was color-corrected.

Coming to the top part, A plane was created in 3dsmax and the reference image was applied as a texture to it. The word shaastra is created in the same way as the inception is written.

The top part of inception was nicely cloned on to this "SHAASTRA". The toughest part was getting the texture to the extruded part. A part of the texture was cut from Inception and it was transformed using warp & distort and applied to shaastra.
Then, Burn tool does the magic to get a sexy look!

Heat transfer - Practicals

Aim : To reduce the heat coming from a laptop

Apparatus : A burning laptop, A water bottle, some books

Procedure :

Forcibly shut down your laptop. (Yea.. I know that it got hanged.)
Tilt it at an angle of 45 degrees with the screen onto the ground.
Take a water bottle and fill it with cold water from your nearest working dispenser.
Put it on the laptop as shown below.
Remove it after 15 minutes.

Other steps to follow :

Always use some books to lift the laptop up to certain distance to ensure that air flows through the bottom surface of the laptop to take away the heat. (refer pictures below)

Repeat the same procedure for different laptops under different conditions and record the values.

Observations :

Dell studio - runs smooth for half an hour after the experiment.

Dell inspiron - runs smooth for 20 minutes after the experiment.

Others - runs smooth for roughly 1 hour after the experiment.

My laptop - works decent for 5 minutes and hangs.

Conclusion :

This is an useless experiment.

Caution :

Dont try this in your room.

This is my laptop configuration which is decent now, awesome an year before. I want to tell you a special mechanism my laptop has developed lately.

My lappy(insti name for laptops) has kinda developed a brain similar to that of a human being. Yea! If not, why does it not work properly for the first week after any journey?? It really has a brain, right?

A few more magic my boy(yea.. he is like my real son, of course with a brain) can perform -

It can take a whole life time to log in. So, I will not shut it down at all.

I am using my laptop as an advanced Iron Box. (added advantages - Larger surface area; Quicker process due to high temperatures; Economical)

You can have your lunch and come back before it opens a new folder. Regarding right-click-menus, I have no words. You can finish your days classes before it pops out.

Games? WTF. It transformed from running GTA IV at 1366 by 768 resolution with anti-aliasing checked on and including effects like fog, water etc.,. to showing send error report message on running NFS MW.

Approximate study made over this week says that my boy takes 23.94 minutes to open photoshop, 13.2 minutes to create a new file, 38 minutes to save it, and on finally closing PS, it hangs (Thank God, that thing came at the end).

The number of times my cursor turns into a circle with a blue gradient rotating at constant velocity exceeds the number of mosquitoes I kill in a day.

The definition of a "second" can be changed to the time taken by my lappy screen to make 984256112344492 vibrations for the slightest possible disturbance given to it.

Insert a pen drive into my boy and forget it! My boy is highly contagious.

I am also using it as a substitute for paper weight (also cloth weight).

There are many other such amazing things about him but he is now feeling shy and tells me that he is gonna hand himself if this post is continued further...

So, now it is no more intel inside. It is Devil inside!
